19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you, life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live: Deuteronomy 30:19
We continue our series on Choose life.
God clearly stated that you have a choice of life or death. But He recommends that you choose life. Joshua and Jesus made similar calls for a clear choice. Joshua said, “choose you this day whom you will serve;” Idols or the LORD. Joshua 24:15” Jesus also offered life and death – “51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” John 6:51 Because of this abandoned Jesus remaining only his twelve disciples, they he asked them “Will you also go away? “John 6:67 They answered Him “…we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.” John 6:69 Just as God said “choose life” now He says Choose Christ. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 The Lord Jesus is the life which God advised us to choose.
Last week, we examined two parts of life: 1. Eating and drinking the bread and water of life. 2. The essence of hunger and thirst after the righteousness of God. If you choose life as God said, then your hunger and thirst for bread and water of life is a vital necessity of spiritual life. Otherwise you might be spiritually dead or dying and not know it. (remember Adam) Jesus said, blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 They shall be satisfies. What could be more prosperous, physically, and spiritually than to be satisfied in life.
Today we are looking at two more spiritual vitals, 1. spiritual blindness and 2. spiritual deaf and dumb.
- A blind person Cannot see, a serious handicap enough but it is worst to be spiritually blind. Jesus said “… if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” Matthew 6:23 That is Total blindness. What could be more damning than, to lose sight and perception. (especially as related to the living God) It becomes hard if not impossible to navigate the way, the will, and the word of God. At best you can be no more than a hypocrite. This is what Jesus called blind leaders of the blind. Matt. 15:14
- Dead person Cannot hear or speak. Physically, you can be deaf but able to speak. In the Spirit though if you are deaf or dumb you likely lost both senses. 13 This is the reason that I speak to them in parables: Jesus said, because having the power of seeing, they do not see; and having the power of hearing, they do not hear, nor do they grasp and understand. (Especially in the Spirit) Matthew 13:13 Beware of spiritual deaf and dump posture. Apostle Paul warns us about this with the following words: 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will pile up for themselves teachers; 2 Timothy 4:3 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 2 Timothy 3:7. 4 nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. 1 Timothy 1:4 Jesus said, it is what you do with the word of God that counts, not what you hear or say. We will continue from here to conclude this series.
While we wait, to choose life cannot wait. Now is the acceptable time, now is the day of salvation. Keep in mind the physical death of the flesh and blood is beyond human control, but the spiritual life which leads to everlasting life, you can do something about right now. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loose his soul. Therefore, choose life. You can Make the turn, repent, and believe the only begotten son of God Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth, and life everlasting, in the Kingdom of God. See next week. God bless you.
