Jesus and His Church Part 2 – Cry for revival prayer October 14, 2020

3 Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore, if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. 5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. Revelation 3:3-5

Last week I introduced this series. Jesus said to the church you have left your first work or love. Why?  I described the reason as spiritual amnesia. Because Jesus corrected his disciples for misunderstanding him because they could not remember the works of Jesus.

In our text today, Jesus laid out the path to overcome the tragedy of spiritual memory loss: He said, remember how you receive and heard, hold fast and repent, Watch and pray – these all together as one, is the path to be an overcomer.  God said to Joshua, This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:8-9 This is the gold standard of how you overcome spiritual amnesia which we talked about last week. When you chew and think over the word of God, His will, and Ways, then you will remember and replenish your faith. Imagine what you can do if you know and remember constantly that God is with you. God will demonstrate his power on behalf of those who are perfect or loyal before Him. And You could not be more perfect than to meditate on His word and His works, day, and night. So that you can remember how you have received and heard the word of God. The church in the wilderness for example,  forgot they were slaves in Egypt, that they were delivered from slavery by the awesome power of God, they forgot the Passover night and the crossing of the red sea on foot. Therefore, when temptation arose in the wilderness, many of them only remember perishable things like food. They failed to reason out that the manna from heaven which they lived on in the wilderness represent the imperishable word of God.  Numbers 11:4-6 Spiritual forgetfulness is deadly to your spirit, soul, and body. So how do we meditate to remember and remember to meditate on the word of God day and night?

Jesus said remember how you received and hear, hold fast and repent. All of these can happen if you constantly chew the word of God. You do this in the following ways.

  1. You must hear and received the word. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 When you hear the word of God saying, God so loved you (the world) that he gave his only begotten and whoever believe on Jesus Christ as the Lord and savior, will not perish but have everlasting life. You know that you believed when you are hungry for more, you want to read and study the bible. 53 Jesus said …, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:53-54 Jesus is the word and the truth of God. Meditation[JC2]  on the word of God is how you eat it- this is not some form of spiritism, or transcendent and trancelike activity. It simply means to hear, believe, and obey, the word of God. To Digest, apply it to your life, and use it to make decisions. It means to cogitate the word of God, remember it, recall it, and make references to it in all situations. In times of need, instead of murmuring, you munch the “word of life” as the “living bread”. When you are tempted, with pain or pleasure, say like Job and David: I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food Job said. Job 23:12 97 Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all day, David said. Psalms 119:97 It is a lamp to my feet and light to my path. Psalm 119:105.

Your meditation should remind you of the word of God, lead you to obedience and victory or to overcome. Both activities are synonymous, you meditate to remember, and vice versa. The temptation of Jesus Christ is a perfect example of This. When Satan tempted Jesus to abuse his power or use it for self-glory, the Lord said “… It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” Matthew 4:4. He recalled the word of God and appropriate it. Remember He had just finished forty day fasting and prayer. Meditation on the word and ways of God, is a big part of prayer and fasting.  Jesus was victorious in all things, he showed us how we must also overcome. With Effective meditation you can always remember to appropriate the word and power of God; as the weapon of Spiritual warfare, the bread of life for strength and stability of faith, and for comfort, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. This is the path to victory, and it all start by faith in Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith. By the grace of God, we will continue next week.  But if you have not started the journey with Jesus, you do so today. God bless you.

and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:

[JC2]So, eating the word of God or believing Jesus must include meditation.
